The evolution of a modern and industrial Pierrelatte occured thanks to the development of the Donzère-Mondragon canal which serves the hydroelectric plant (1948-1958). In 1959, the government erected a Uranium Isotopic Separation plant (C.E.A). The development of the site and the construction of the plant began in 1960 and lasted around 1965. Other installations subsequently developed around this plant. In 1974, construction of the power plant, EURODIF (situated south of the C.E.A.) and, at the same time, of the Tricastin Nuclear plant were undertaken. EURODIF started up in 1979 and E.D.F (Electricity of France) was progressively hooked up to the national network from 1980. Thanks to this industrial evolution, shops, schools, sport activities and cultural societies followed, making Pierrelatte the form it is today. Since 1194, you can discover the Crocodiles Farm, an incredible safari with more than 500 crocodiles. |
